Dipstick Instructions

Flexible Dipstick Instructions

  1. Remove the bolt holding the factory dipstick tube to the engine and remove the original dipstick and tube.
  2. Coat the oil pan end of the new flexible tube (the end with the larger o-rings) liberally with grease and snake the tube behind the timing belt cover (the original tube location).
  3. The tube with it's silicone o-rings fits very tightly in the oil pan but if you are worried about leakage, you can coat the o-ring area with silicone sealant instead of grease.
  4. Grab the fitting at the bottom of the tube with pliers and push the tube into the oil pan.

For 1995 and later engines

  1. Loosen the tension on the serpentine belt and remove the two bolts that hold the tensioner mounting bracket to the engine.
  2. Reinstall the bolts through the supplied bracket and the tensioner mount. Bend the bracket as required to position the dipstick handle in an accessible position.
  3. The hose clamp can now be installed through the supplied bracket and around the dipstick hose.
  4. The oil level indicator on the flexible dipstick is placed to allow for a higher oil level than with the original dipstick. This higher level has been found to work well in all oil pan configurations and has not proven to cause any additional oil consumption.

For 1990-1994 engines

  1. Remove the right side lower 8mm bolt holding the serpentine tensioner assembly to the engine block.
  2. Reinstall the bolt through the supplied bracket and the tensioner mount.
