After conversion I had an alt light on after start in park and neutral only; alt was putting out regardless. After some study of Bentley, I added the extra diode (from the Radio Shack 3 pack of diodes for the tach fix) to one coil wire of the VW oem cruise control relay, between the alt light and relay in the circuit and blocking from the alt side, (the other side of the relay coil gets power ftom terminal 50 of the start/ignition switch). The relay actuates during start and no more alternator light, yay. I can only figure this relay prevents (or interupts) cruise control operation during start, as it is N.C. at all other times. I took starter engaged power for the Subie ECU right at terminal 50 of the starter, so the alt light may have been looking at something in the ECU through the cruise control relay". Hope this helps Wildthings, sorry for the highjack Dave.
